Your Gift Can Change a Life

UPDATE JANUARY 2020

Thanks to the generous support we received from friends, family and strangers, the last few years has allowed us to convert the replica of Ernest Hemingway's sportfishing boat Pilar to a totally accessible boat for people using wheelchairs, canes and crutches. An electric lift for access to the cabin and lavatory below, a large wheelchair accessible head and a safe boarding ramp was engineered and installed. To date, we have surpassed our wildest dreams; being able to maintain and keep Pilar providing fishing and boating excursions on Biscayne Bay in Miami for people with disabilities... veterans always ride free.

Now high insurance premiums and docking fees have curtailed our efforts and Pilar is sitting in dry dock waiting to begin work again. Your tax deductible donations will allow us to continue our program by helping us to pay for insurance, marina fees and maintenance to get Pilar back in the water bringing folks out on the water again.

When you make a gift of a tax deductible contribution, you help make it be possible for  the Shannon River Marine Heritage Foundation to:

  • Procure appropriate power boats and convert them to accessibility for SRMHF and affiliate clubs to use

  • Offset the costs of fuel, insurance, supplies and adaptive fishing and boating gear

  • Hire and train staff/volunteers to work with individuals with special needs participating in the SRMHF program

  •  Get the word out about the SRMHF boating program to disabled veteran groups and others with disabilities to coordinate a regularly scheduled boating opportunity for those who wish to participate

  • Advertise and promote the SRMHF boating program through boat shows, websites, advertising media, social media, mailings and dedicated literature to make the program visible to those in need and to secure contributors

  • Transport Pilar to various boat shows and high visibility locations for exposure to spread the word and create public awareness concerning the critical lack of jobs for the over 500,000 unemployed veterans transitioning
into the civilian workplace and the shortfall in boating recreational activities for those with disabilities

Working together we are hopeful that we can give the priceless freedom of the wind, water, and spirit to the warriors in our society who have to overcome adversity every day.

Our goal to pay for insurance, maintenance, marina docking fees, and purchase equipment is $25,000. Please help by clicking on the donate button below.
